Again, a number which assumes significance in the blog world. A century and the successive ones..

This time, I want to take the opportunity to tell all you readers and commenters, how much you are an intrinsic part to my blogging and my life. I have often boasted to R before, how I blog only for myself. I blog to write, and I write for pleasure. That readers and commenters are only incidental to the process, a fun aspect of blogging. But that is not true. For it is actually you who fuel my efforts to write...who leave me with the desire to share these slices of my life, knowing that it makes some difference to someone without an immediate face, but with enough character and personality packed into that one letter, or 2 letters or more of nicks and names.

All of you are readers first, before you become commenters. And I have loved this silent world of readers as much as I have the spirited voices from the comments section. Because it has been proved to me from time to time to time, that when the moment is ripe, a reader becomes a commenter. There will always be some point of connection somewhere, that will make you click one extra time and leave a voice for me to hear. And I am grateful for that. Deeply grateful.

And in order to balance out the sentiments from the last few days with something a little lighter, I want to do a fun poll. On this recent trip, one of R's Mama's shared a pearl of wisdom with me. He said that he was yet to come across a couple that unanimously agreed on the usage of the ceiling fan! I was stunned to hear it, and in the course of the next few days proceeded to conduct little surveys of all the couples who were around me. And even more stunned to find that yes, he was right. Starting with R and me. On a perfectly pleasant day, it will be me wanting the fan at the lowest speed at least, for that minimum circulation, without which I would come close to acute suffocation. R will take the diametric opposite end and curl up shivering and pleading for some compassion for his trembling state. We asked 6 more couples and each of them were situated on the opposite sides of the spectrum, making this observation a promising contender for a quotable quote!!! I am now continuing this survey with you...for what is a finding if it is not supported by the maximum population. So go on...humour me, think about your own partner and you and tell me which one likes the fan on!

Lots of love!!!!

Congratulations T :) and TGIF!

To your survey, not sure if I qualify- but I would be on R's side :D. And then of course you have already heard about the North and South poles at my home...

Congrats on the 400 ! Awesome ,just plain awesome ! Here's to the next 400 :)

Have been catching up with the India posts and going Aapi no aapi,Auto for some time now. And, 'Raji patti' touched a chord deep down. Thanks for writing that lovely time machine of a post,T. That is all your readers' collective ode to their own grandmothers as well. Will look forward to the account of your meeting with your juno swan . That's in store, right ? :)

And hey ..the ceiling fan - you got an exception here. We both need it for the white noise it makes and not so much for the comfort or whatever. Can't sleep without it and we have trained Mia that way too :(

Vidhur said... Best Blogger Tips

Congrats! We, here, are an exception to the fan rule. But, every time I am in the same room as my father, he always says 'Evlo fast-a fan venumaa?'.

I read your previous posts, Tharini. It was like you were describing me and my maternal grandma, Raji Patti(Yeah, same name). Right down to that butter-soft, slightly wet saree, that felt like heaven in Chennai, during those summer vacations.

congrats Tara.. may it grow to 4000.. and you bet - the OA and I never agree on room temperature. but then we rarely agree on anything :p

Let me become a commenter on this milestone :) Your parenting style has always been an inspiration to me with my 3 year and 3 month old. I enjoy reading each and every post. Congratulations!!!

congrats T. each of the 400 posts is awesome.

room temperature preferences - one thing we do agree upon!

asaaan said... Best Blogger Tips

woohoo on the 400.
When we do have the fan on during the summer months, Nk will want it on the lowest setting away from any body parts and I want it full blast on my face.My dad and mom are the same way.

Hi Tharini,

Congratulations on the 400th post. I'm a regular reader of your blogs. I discovered your blog through a friends and I've been hooked on since. I love the simplicity and honesty your writings reflect! I'll try and transition to a commenter from a reader :)

Now to answer your question, fan/no fan decision is always a breeze. But there is always disagreement on the speed of the fan.

Cantaloupes.Amma (CA) said... Best Blogger Tips

What R's mama said is completely TRUE !!

I have myself conducted this survey with few couples and have found this so true.

While I love it when the fan is turned on, BP puts on layers of clothing to avoid it.

hmmmm wait, one exception I know is my parents ... both of them prefer the fan turned on.

Hi Tharini,

I posted my comment a few days ago about reading your previous blog entries as you did not post anything after coming back from India! Such is my addiction to your blog!!

I just love your blogs and am so glad that you are at 400 th post.

The way you write is so sensitive. Even small things you give your touch!!

Please keep up the good work....

I am on your side - I need to have fan at least at speed 1 or I feel suffocated - My husband shivers and overacts the "feeling cold" part. We live in Texas and it is not that bad as compared to east Coast.

Tharini said... Best Blogger Tips in Nish?? Thank you so much for writing. :)

Alt! :) Yeah I know all about the south vs north and east meets west synergy! :)

Thiru : Amazed that you conducted the survey so diligently. And look what results it yielded. Want to consider a double PhD??? :)

IoS : Long time friend. Have missed you and your quiet sense. Yes, Juno Swan is definitely up next, after a bit of an emotional breather, sorely needed right now on the blog. ;) So you are an exception...hmm....will accept it!

Vidhur : Another exception? Looks like my theory wont see the light of day much on this blog! :D. I am gla we share this same thread of memory.

MM : Thank you love. For the '4000 wishes and for reinstating my contention! Knew I could depend on you for that! :D

Rekha : Thank you for taking the leap. Looks like our time to become acquainted had come then? :) Hearing your say parenting style and inspiration in the same sentence has me very guilty now....given my recent horrendous behavior...*sigh*.

Chox! :) Another couple dissing my theory. Oh well! :)

asaaan : Yaaay! *high five* on agreeing...:)

Mahuri : Thank you dear. No worries on transitioning to a commenter. Its nice to know you're out there...Loved the pun about the decision being a breeze. Lol.

CA : Look at you agreeing so vehemently. :D You've conducted this survey too...another thing we share in common!

Hi Sujatha. :)I remember that comment, it tickled me no end! Thanks for writing again..

Suma said... Best Blogger Tips

congrats on teh 400...i've recently started reading your blog and love the way you write...

as for the fan issue, i like it on...while he shivers...:)

Congratulations!! Among other things, LOVE your attention to detail - small details but the kind that add so much value. That's a huge inspiration to me! You've completely blown me away with the narration of your childhood visits to your grand-parents' place!!
Not to forget the flow of stories - how they beautifully segue, and keep us engrossed.

Keep em coming!

And...Pup and I are another exception - sorry :(
Both of us *need* to have the fan running even on the coldest of nights just as much as we do for the hottest days - for that circulation... and away from our min. speed!

Its like this, when I want the fan, he's shivering and when I'm the one whose teeth chatters, he is complaining of the sweltering heat- and when the kids were babies, we used to argue because we tended to think that the baby was in tune with our individual preferences- I would swaddle the baby in blankets if I felt cold and he would promptly take it off saying the baby was sweating- and vice versa. Luckily for the children they've developed their own temperature preferences and are quite vociferous about it. However I think I'm not quite in the majority around here. :-(

when we were just married, i always felt my DH wanted things way cooler than i did. he'd make the room really cold at night, and then cover up. now, i love that too. we both yearn for the cool.

i changed. he didn't. i wonder what that says...

Anonymous said... Best Blogger Tips

Congratulations on your 400th post T. My first time here though have been following your blog for quite sometime.

Regarding our poll - its true in our case. DH likes to switch on the fan while I put on a sweater and complain about my sinuses :)

Thinking Cramps said... Best Blogger Tips

What a brilliant observation. Yeah - it is absolutely true. Anando always wants the fan on and I tend to feel cold so I huddle under the quilts!

Anonymous said... Best Blogger Tips

on really cold days G wants the fan and i obviously do not.

but on really hot days when the fan is really needed and i do want it - guess what G's preference is??? he he!!!

And, err, I know how uncool this sounds, but the husband and I are made for each other, atleast where temprature settings are concerned :)
We actually discussed that while we were dating: fan speed and individual duvets are very important to sanity!

Hi Tharini,
Yes, you are absolutely right what you'd said about silent readers becoming commentors! Thats true in my case. I've read all your posts, and the first thing I do once I open my PC in the morning is get on to winkie's ways. Colleagues in my office also know this routine of mine. Your posts trigger a thought in me especially the spiritually inclined ones..Just that my writig skills are very elementary and I shy away from writing..Also, waiting for a baby so that I can chronicle the baby's life in the form of a blog Please includ em in your prayers.

Best Wishes!

400! wow!! :)

and yes, M and me rarely agree about fan too unless when it gets really hot! i feel cold too quickly and M too hot! :D

Tharini said... Best Blogger Tips

Ok. Results of the poll....including Thiru's self conducted one of 3 couples...its a whooping 17:6. 17 in support of the theory, 6 in exceptions. This is pretty good! Must tell the Mama about it! :)

Manisha....your situation left me stumped. for what that says...can I offer that you are very flexible, and he is very capable of convincing? :)

Thanks guys for doing the poll! Enjoyed the fun reading.
